On 8 October 2008, The World Federation invited all members of our global communities, both young and old to send us a short write-up finishing the sentence:
“I LOVE MY GRANDPARENT(S) BECAUSE…”
Below is a memoir from Sr. Sabiha Shabbir Damji of Dubai, UAE honoring her grandparents:

I LOVE MY GRANDPARENTS BECAUSE…
They are Allah’s (swt) most precious blessings on me.
I can’t imagine being born without them,
which makes me thank Allah (swt) even more.
To me, they are the pillars of the family,
who have built a foundation for generations to follow.
From the cooking sessions with grandma,
to the storytelling sessions with grandpa,
I have learnt so many morals in life
that I hope to pass on to my own children one day.
Losing my maternal grandfather in January 2005 still brings tears to my eyes. For this, I would like to remind everyone who still has their grandparents around to:
“Be thankful to Allah (swt), indeed you are very lucky.”
