The Senior Citizens Forum (SCF) arranged an Eid celebration for its members on Friday 16 November 2007 at SCF Recreation Centre PECHS, Karachi. More than hundred male and female seniors attended the gathering.
Ali Raza T. Lakhani, the Honorary Secretary of SCF addressed the gathering. He recalled the blessings of the sacred month of Ramadhan and wished that the worship and devotion of the seniors during this month be accepted by Allah (swt) and they be rewarded in the hereafter for their good deeds. He explained that the qualities of the people who shall be in paradise are narrated in Sura-e-Azzariat (51) of the Holy Quran; they are those who had little sleep at night, prayed for forgiveness in the early hours of dawn and considered a share in their property for beggars and the destitute. He said the seniors can achieve these qualities because they by nature have little sleep in their old age and usually get up early in the dawn. They have only to pray while they are awake and give away a share from their savings to the people who are in need of help.
Ali Raza Bhai deliberated upon several projects taken up by SCF to help the deprived old age people and appealed to participate in providing daily meals (Tiffin) to the disabled persons who are not able to cook or mobile to buy the food. He also explained the reasons for setting up the Seniors Day Care Centre and appealed to philanthropists to make this project a success as it will go a long way to solve the problems of old age persons who do not reconcile with their relatives.
Ali Raza Bhai then gave details of various recreational activities of SCF for its members. He said the indoor and outing programs presented are much appreciated by them and more members are now participating in such programs.
At the end, the participants were served delicious dinner hosted by SCF. They were all happy and availed the opportunity of mixing up and talking with their colleagues.
