The Women’s Desk of the World Federation, in collaboration with NASIMCO, has organised a 3-day training programme for ‘Marriage Educators’ to be held in Orlando, USA, from 18th to 20th December 2004. The programme is part of the Action Plan for the revival of the WF Marriage Advisory Council, and is similar to the Pilot Training Programme held on 28 to 30 May 2004 in Milton Keynes, UK.
This programme will be jointly run by Islamic Lecturers and trainers from the National Institute of Relationship Enhancement®. The training will cover a wide range of topics and aims to provide the participants with the necessary skills for Pre-Marriage Counselling within the community. The participants will learn to provide assistance to couples in sustaining their relationship using different methods and approaches, and will be able to guide them through the initial stages of their married life. The task of these ‘Marriage Educators’ will then be to carry out such preparation courses with couples in their respective Jamaats.
Based on research done in several countries, it has been shown that couples, who prepare themselves properly for marriage are more likely to stay together when problems arise in their marriage. Over 20 participants from different Jamaats in USA and Canada have enrolled for the programme, which will be hosted by the Orlando Jamaat.
The whole aim of this project is to sustain marriages and enhance couple's relationships by building an essential network of Regional Marriage Educators who would join the global team under the Marriage Advisory Council. The Council will provide support and enhance the work done by dedicated volunteers within the community in its important tasks.
The President of The World Federation, Dr Ahmed Hassam said: “This joint initiative with NASIMCO is an excellent example of how centralisation is working. The WF is an enabler and facilitator and this way we are able to serve the community world-wide.”
