312 patients received Eye treatment at Aeinullah Eye Clinic in Bihar, Patna in 2009

Updated 11 March 2010

“Aeinullah” was a name attributed to Imam Ali (AS) which means “Eye of God”. The Aeinullah Eye Clinic brings the gift of sight to thousands of people living in Patna and surrounding areas. The Clinic provides eye treatment to those who require, irrespective of colour, cast or religion. Patients are charged for treatment according to their financial abilities and services are free for those who cannot afford it.

The Clinic provides several services including:

  • screening of patients with various eye conditions through state of the art equipment
  • consultation and treatment of various eye conditions
  • cataract eye surgery to restore sight
  • eye testing
  • providing spectacles

Aeinullah Eye Clinic began providing services in 1999 through Zainabiya Health Centre. An Ophthalmologist visits the clinic on a weekly basis to treat the patients.  Surgeries are also done through the same centre. The total cost of running the Clinic including treatments & surgeries of patients is approximately GBP 1,500 per annum.

Patna is a city with rich history and culture. It is the capital of Bihar, with a population of over 1.8 million. Whilst Patna has a rich socioeconomic background and is an upcoming city in India, there are lot of pockets within the city where the population is struggling to make ends meet. Health care has become a luxury rather than a necessity. Individuals lack basic facilities like housing, sanitation, and clean water. Health care is virtually non-existent in these areas. Most people are unemployed and getting enough to eat is a daily struggle. The Aeinullah Eye Clinic and the Zainabiya Health Centre is located in one of these areas.

About 60% of all blindness worldwide is caused by Cataract, childhood eye disease, Trachoma and Onchocerciasis; all which could be significantly reduced if eye care services were readily available and affordable in developing countries such as India, Pakistan and Africa.

The World, Federation, has been able to establish such centres through the unwavering support of our donors without whose support such projects would have remained just a dream. Working together, we are making a difference, one life at time and will Inshallah be rewarded by the Almighty for giving His creation the gift of sight.

Over the years, Aeinullah Eye Clinic has treated over 3700 patients.
