CoEJ takes over Patient Referral Program from The World Federation

The Health Improvement Board (HIB) of The Council of European Jamaat (CoEJ) has taken over the Patient Referral Programme from The World Federation’s Medical Advisory Board (MAB).

MAB was formed in 1979. At this time, the main activity of this Board was to facilitate appointments for patients who were coming from overseas with the most appropriate consultants. These patients were initially seen in Birmingham. In 1999 MAB London was formed and patients were offered a choice of seeing consultants in either London or Birmingham.

Today, with the restructuring of The World Federation and the with Regional federation now taking over the delivery of services, The Council of European Jamaat’s Health Improvement Board has assumed new ownership of the Patient Referral Programme.

Dr Akil Nurmohamed, the Coordinator for this Programme said: “I am very pleased to be of assistance to patients coming from overseas for treatment.”

Dr Munir M Datoo, the Assistant Secretary General for Health said: “It is pleasing to note that CoEJ has decided not to restrict the Referral Programme to consultants in Birmingham or London but any City in the UK. This expansion of services will undoubtedly assist patients in numerous ways.”

Patients wanting to come to the UK for treatment should email the CoEJ secretariat at secretariat@coej.org. Dr. Nurmohamed will then assess the report and will arrange appointments with the most appropriate consultant. Appointments can be made for any city in England.
