Free Eye Camp – Kizapata Village, Tanzania

A Free eye camp was organised in Kizapata Village on 24th May 2009.  335 people were screened for minor eye ailments, from which the following cases were detected:














  • 15 Matured cataracts
  • 10 Immature cataracts
  • 52 Conjunctivitis
  • 8 Presbyopia
  • 8 Photophobia
  • 4 Corneal Scar
  • 1 Maculopathy
  • 11 Pterygium
  • 5 Trachoma
  • 2 Glaucoma
  • 2 Pseudophakic
  • 3 Phthisis Bulbi

320 Pairs of spectacles and 80 units of eye drops and ointment were delivered free of charge as prescribed. 11 cataract and 4 Trachoma surgeries were performed by Dr Dilawer on 31 May 2009 at Mkuranga Hospital.

The eye camp was attended by several volunteers, including the following optometrists:

Transportation was provided by Tanzania Road Haulage and Anverbhai Merali.
