The Al-Mahdi Hospital in Mianwali, Pakistan organised a free medical camp. The camp was held on 26 April 2009 where 850 patients were treated at no charge. Apart from providing free medicines, ultrasounds and laboratory test were also provided for at no cost.
Mianwali is the capital city of Mianwali District in the north-west of Punjab province in Pakistan. It is connected by road and rail with Multan and Rawalpindi. Like other small cities in Pakistan, its main struggles include poverty, unemployment, inadequate facilities for quality education and insufficient health coverage.
Al-Mahdi hospital has been serving the local community for 12 years and has arranged 30 medical camps from 2002 until now. Most of the camps were medical camps, but they have also arranged 2 surgical camps, where minor surgeries were performed. 4 eye camps were also organised. Doctors from various specialities attended to the patients.
Al-Mahdi Hospital was established on 12 June 1997. It initially started by providing general out patients’ services. Since then, the hospital has improved a great deal and today it supports 20 beds. The facility operates around the clock and all kinds of medical emergencies are tended to here. Among other services, it also provides general surgeries, ENT surgeries, Neurosurgery, dental care, and is home to the Aeinullah Eye Clinic.
The Aeinullah Eye clinic was funded by The World Federation and was inaugurated on 13 January 2006. Recently, The World Federation purchased a phaco machine for the Aeinullah Eye Clinic. A phaco machine is the latest instrument used in cataract surgeries which provides for a very safe, effective procedure, which allows the patient to walk out of the surgical suite and to resume normal activities within a few days.
