CoEJ Eid Card Design Competition

Updated 1 October 2008

With over 40 separate entries received for our Eid-ul-Fitr Card Competition; this years' judges had the unenviable task of selecting one winner from so many amazing entries. All the designs, from paintings to color-pencil designs to computerised artwork; all made with attention and thought, were wonderful pieces of art in their own right.

After much deliberation by the judges, CoEJ is pleased to announce that Saarah Kaaba from Hyderi Jamaat has won this years Eid Card Design Competition.

The Secretary-General of The Council of European Jamaats, Shabbar Dhalla, congratulated all the entrants when he commented that "we were amazed by the number of designs that were sent in, and what also standard they were at. Congratulations go to our winner, Saarah Kaaba, but also to every single one of the other entrants - they clearly put in a lot of effort and are very talented."

The judges thought it would only be fair to the entrants, given the high-quality of the designs; that a further short-list of their top-five designs were chosen and that as many as possible were uploaded to the website for people to appreciate and send to their loved ones.

The judges' top five designs were:

  1. Saarah Kaaba
  2. Amira Alsareinye
  3. Qayim Kaaba
  4. Saiba Shah
  5. Mohammed Bhogadia

Sadiq Datoo, Chair of the Youth Desk, was equally beaming about the designs: "Having seen the designs, I can see why the judges found the selection of a winner hard. There is so much variety in the entries themselves and in the entrants - from all over the world and across many age groups. Each of them deserves thanks and praise for their efforts."

The organisers would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have been involved in this project in making it a success; especially our entrants. It is unfortunate that there can only be one winner; but we hope that they will keep putting pen to paper regularly; and creating more wonderful designs.

All the designs are available for viewing and can be sent to friends and family electronically by clicking here.
