The World Federation Qum Office hosts Dars-e-Akhlaq sessions at Dar al-Zahra (SA)

‘Dars-e-Akhlaq’ is a commonly known term amongst students in Qum, which usually refers to sessions targeted at awakening the human soul within and to instil spiritual values that would raise the ethical and moral levels of our existence.

The World Federation Qum Office is honoured to host the presence of Hujjatul Islam Sayyid Mahmood Kaviani, Director of Madrasah al-Mahdi (aj), for Dars-e-Akhlaq sessions for the month of Safar.

Sayyid Kaviani is a well-known personality in the academic circles of Qum and is a key supporter of initiatives carried out by foreign students of the Hawza. He has been a regular guest-speaker with the Madinah and Bab summer camps and usually joins the camps in Mashhad for religious guidance.

With two sessions a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings, Sayyid, in his informal style of Farsi peppered with English, spends around an hour tackling general Akhlaqi topics and connecting different aspects of ethics to our daily life. His introductory session revolved around the principle of practicing what one learns (‘Amal), since the knowledge we acquire places a significant responsibility on the ‘Alim. The implication of this issue is especially profound for a student of Religion and one who wishes to guide others towards Islam.

The discussions in recent sessions have centred on the reality of sins which become like a load that each human carries around with them without realising. Citing examples from the Qur’an of the ‘donkey with a load of books’ and the Munafiqun (Hypocrites), he reminded the audience of the need to clearly define their responsibilities as lovers of the Ahl-ul-Bayt (as) and strive to become their true Shias.

The sessions have been well received by the student community and many have requested longer sessions with more in-depth discussion of topics.
