The World Federation is committed to supporting the development of the madaris curriculum and student development. The introduction of the GCSE and AS Levels is a part of this programme and provides a platform where matters of Aqaid and Lifestyle Ethics can be discussed in a safe environment.
In continuation of this support, and to help teachers in their teaching of these qualifications, The World Federation holds regular training and development exercises for both teachers and students.
Following the success of the AQA Inset Training held earlier in the year, held on GCSE Unit 8 Islamic Education organised another Inset on GCSE Unit 9 for madaris teachers. This was held in Watford and most UK madaris were represented.
The session was chaired by Shaykh Abbas Ismail. The madaris provided an update of their experiences in teaching the GCSE. The AQA trainer, Diana Hayden, then began to go through the exam technique and question formats that are used in the examinations.
Participants commented:
"(I enjoyed the discussion on) how papers are marked and what students and teachers need to focus on ... (the session had) interesting discussions - loads of information to tackle both units."
"Those not here missed an awesome discussion."
A number of action points were discussed including:
1. The World Federation will endeavour to produce manuals of notes and teaching resources for Unit 9 and AS Levels Units K & L
2. The World Federation will provide madaris with mind maps to ease revision
3. The World Federation will design a mock exam that the madaris can use to prepare students for examinations this year
4. A revision support session will be held on 24th April for madaris students
