1st LDP Master-Class Report - A Recap for LDP Alumni

Updated 29 November 2011

The 20 action point for the Leadership Development Program is gradually being implemented in Africa to achieve the objectives target by 2014.

Nairobi was the venue for the first Africa LDP in December 2008 and it was proposed that having the first masterclass in Nairobi would be beneficial for the 1st LDP alumnis covering also the alumnis who were residents of Nairobi. This took place on 5 November 2011.

There were 14 participants who attended; out of which 3 were 1st LDP, 1 from 3rd LDP and the remaining from the 4th LDP who were the newest alumnis. Everyone was given time to share their personal experience relating to development that was attained from the LDP, how they used that effectively in their life.

Since there was time constraint, only a few of the modules were recapped, which included the understanding self and EQ, MBTI, Tolerance and Respect and Feedback. Knowledge paradox and also the competence/ concious learning stages were looked into. Visioning was requested by a participant, and an offline discussion was agreed upon.

Overall it was a good session that was taken well. Suggestions from participants showed that these sessions need to be conducted more often.

Participant’s comments:

Can we have these sessions at least once every 2 months - Mohsin Sheriff

We need to realise that this is a continuous journey, and looking at our notes would remind us of the processes that we need to be using - Amirali Rashid

I will go back to my MBTI- FazleAbbas Chandoo

Leadership need to do this course even in smaller modules forms - Pyarali Esmail Kassam

Feedback from Participants:

1. What went well

• recap of forgotten concepts.
• it helped to clear a few things that I didn't understand the last time.
• recap went well, brushed up on all 'greyish' areas, getting clearer - fog clearing up.
• good attendance and well planned.
• it was a good recap refresher. Reminded me of things that I had forgotten.
• topics chosen by participants - topics covered adequately except vision - even this was summarised very well .
• experiences.
• to get all alumnis from 1st to 4th give their experiences
• it was a reminder of what we learned, and how I can implement it even better
• the fact that the recap was organised and getting the opportunity to revisit LDP was encouraging to note
• an excellent wrap up and it was very energising and refreshing on all learnt and implementing
• it was a jog down memory lane. i need to read my notes again

2.  What could be better

• time
• time - to achieve more
• more time needs to be given four discussions - longer session [time flies with discussions & analysis]
• longer sessions atleast 4 hours
• longer session time was short - more examples to understand concepts discussed [real life examples]
• more role play in future with intermittent classes to ensure regular practice of topics learned and personal development and leadership qualities
• probably a longer session, covering areas in detail
• having more of LDP get together to encourage networking and gathering information in our journey towards being a better leader
• more thrust from AFED and WF to encourage Jamaats [locals] to entice and assist for more participants to take part
• more time, play acting a few experiences to make them more real
