Updated 21 December 2011
The World Federation sponsored the construction of 5 deep bore water wells with hand water pumps in Pakistan’s flood affected areas. All 5 of these wells were recently completed and are providing fresh clean water to over 6,000 people living in rural communities.
The wells were sponsored through a donor group who came together to raise funds to build wells for Pakistan’s flood victims who lost everything in July 2010. Three more wells are scheduled to be built starting in Safar 1433.

NEED FOR WELLS IN SINDH, PAKISTAN
In Pakistan, 30% of the population has no access to clean drinking water. This group collects water from unhygenic sources like ponds and rain pools. Both humans and animals seek water from the same sources. The World Federation is hopeful that as a community, we can provide clean water to this 30% of the underprivileged population by building water wells one village at a time.
LOCATION FOR WATER WELL DEVELOPMENT
The World Federation continues to work in partnership with Hussaini Foundation to build water wells in Sindh Province where locals depend on livestock and agriculture to sustain themselves. In the sites where the 5 wells were built,
• The water source in the barrage district is underground and is bitter and not drinkable
• The water source in the desert lands is rain water; underground water exists but is too deep to access
Since the locals cannot afford to build wells, they collect rainwater in tubs. This water is then shared by humans and livestock which makes for an unhygienic and polluted water source. However, lack of rain is a problem here and locals must walk for miles to fetch water.
TO SPONSOR A WELL IN PAKISTAN
Water is the very symbol of life. The Ali Asghar Water Appeal (AAWA) is an initiative of The World Federation in partnership with The Africa Federation, CoEJ and NASIMCO to raise funds to provide struggling families with easy access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities in developing countries including India, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Kenya.
17 months after the devastating floods that washed through Pakistan, countless families and villages are starting to rebuild their lives and their communities; the installation of these wells is essential to their progress.
The cost of building one well in Pakistan is £1605 GBP / $2500 USD-CAD
