The Council of European Jamaats (CoEJ) has appointed Arifali Hirji as its new Relief Team Leader. The role of the Relief Team Leader involves working alongside The World Federation with respect to its Relief work and providing information about its various initiatives to the Jamaats and Community members across Europe. CoEJ would then assist by building awareness of these strategies, initiating fundraising programs and providing information and feedback to The World Federation on various Relief issues.
Arifali Hirji was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. He has been involved in community work for many years. In the Stockholm (Marsta) Jamaat he has served in different capacities including Vice President, Youth Chairman, Webmaster, Madrasah teacher, as well as The World Federation Islamic Education Board (IEB) and ZCSS representative. Arifali moved to the UK approximately two years ago. In Stanmore Jamaat, he has alhamdulillah the opportunity to serve as volunteer for the English Listening Centre as well as Stanmore Jafferys, and he is currently a teacher at the Shia Ithna'asheri Madressa.
Arifali has an Masters of Science in Engineering Physics with a specialisation in Financial Mathematics from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, and has worked as a Researcher at the London Business School. Currently he works as an Energy Analyst.
Upon his appointment as the Relief Team Leader, Arifali said: "All praise belongs to Allah (swt) to have given me the opportunity to serve His community. Ayatullah Behjat says 'The heart of a true believer is the Garden of Imam-e-Zamana (as)’ and I pray that all Relief volunteers across Europe aim towards this sincere motto."
Shan-E-Abbas Hassam, the Assistant Secretary General of Relief & Economic Development stated: ‘I welcome this appointment by CoEJ and very much look forward to working closely with Brother Arif. Arif no doubt will play a pivotal role in liaising with the European Jamaats on the work we are collectively conducting as well as informing the community in Europe of the progress.’
