BMM Kenya – Report on Economic Upliftment Programme

In continuation of the training programme for Economic Upliftment held in April 2008, the second module for 5 days was held from July 14-18, 2008 at the Chengoni Rural Centre.

 

 


The themes covered in this session were based on the following business skills:

  • Introduction to business
  • Profit and loss
  • Cash control
  • SWOT analysis
  • Marketing 6 Ps
  • Feasibility study
  • Introduction to bookkeeping
  • Bookkeeping sample
  • Wages
  • Dividends
  • Business plan
  • Final evaluation

The session started with the recap on Module I training.  It was encouraging to note that the participants remembered the lessons taught to them in Module I.  The trainer continued by defining the goals and objective of the workshop. 

In this session the problems and difficulties of the group were tackled very well by the trainer.  The participants also mentioned their expectation from the workshop including:

  • To learn how to manage their own business
  • Improve their business
  • How to run a profitable business
  • How to handle customers
  • How to identify a profitable business, and to manage their business cash

The module II sessions saw very active members with lots of interaction during the sessions.  As they had attended the Module I sessions, they seemed to have developed more confidence and were responding well.  They came up with ideas, suggestions and questions.  The number of participants was above 75, including interested new members on the team. 

Achievements:

  • The group members were very keen in starting their own business
  • The participants were able to identify their own businesses and were eager to receive loans
  • Group savings has increased fro Ksh. 10.405/. to Ksh. 16,625/

BMMK now intends to undertake a 2 day loan training and appraisal sessions in Mackinnon Road and Chengoni Centres.  Thereafter successful applicants will be given loans.
