The President of The World Federation and other Mu’mineen prayed Zohrain Namaz led by Syed Musawi at the Khoja Mosque in Mogadishu 20 years after the Khoja community in Somalia fled from the civil war.
The World Federation President, Dr Asgarali Moledina and Wabil Patron Syed Msuavi travelled to refugee camps in Dadaab, and Mogadishu to co-ordinate The World Federation’s response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis. The delegation was honoured to be accompanied by the former Africa Federation Chairman Ramzan bhai Nanji.
The UN estimates over 11.5 million
people are on the verge of starvation in East Africa. The Kenya Red Cross estimates more than 2 million people in Kenya are in need of emergency food supplies or they will become part of the ever-increasing number of casualties caused by this latest famine.
Dr Moledina, and Wabil Patron Sayed Musawi and the accompanying delegation met with The President of Somalia H.E. Ahmed Sharif, and The Mayor of Mogadishu to hear about the situation in Somalia. They also discussed how to co-ordinate an efficient and safe delivery of food and resources required to help the 6 million Somali’s currently suffering.
H.E. Ahmed Sharif, the Somali President stressed the need for aid to be sent to his country and he promised the resources at his disposal to ensure the aid is used to help the people suffering in Somalia. The Mayor of Mogadishu then showed the delegates the refugee camps in the city housing nearly 450,000 people.

Having seen the rough, cramped and tough conditions at the Seyyed Refugee Camp in Mogadishu Dr Moledina said, “They were staring at us with sunken dried up eyes and shrivelled skin hoping that we could do something to help them.”
The Seyyed Refugee Camp is one of the largest camps in Mogadishu with nearly 30,000 people living in cramped conditions, hoping for scarce food rations not to run out. The camp has a water source however it is very slow and inefficient due to the lack of a pump and a generator.
Upon landing in Mogadishu Br Shahidali Khaki said, “Bullets in walls, broken buildings, and armed gunmen are common sights in Mogadishu, 20 years of civil war has torn this country apart. Now we have the worst humanitarian crisis on our hands, and aid is too far away from Somalia due to the lack of access and the security fears that surrounds this crisis.”
Having prepared the logistics for the delivery of food baskets, sustainable water supply, and medication. The World Federation and WABIL is immediately dispatching 10,000 food baskets to various refugee camps in the famine-affected areas in North East Kenya and Somalia.
Currently the new arrivals to the refugee camps in Dadaab are waiting nearly two weeks to be registered and during this time they face severe challenges of food and water shortages. Therefore The World Federation is sending food baskets to Dadaab to feed the 1500 refugees arriving everyday.
The refugee camps inside Somalia face even tougher conditions than those in Kenya, and the weakest people affected by the crisis are currently being left back in Somalia. Therefore The World Federation is also sending food baskets to the refugee camps inside Mogadishu.
In addition The World Federation and WABIL will immediately provide funding for the construction of 12 bore holes where water supply is scare so that this can provide water to communities and their livestock.
However this is only a start, and a drop in the ocean compared to the needs of the people who are suffering in this crisis. As a generous and giving community The World Federation is once again turning to you to help hungry and thirsty people in Somalia and Kenya.
To donate food baskets please make a contribution of £20 or $30 at www.world-federation.org to provide a family with enough maize, rice, flour, beans, sugar, oil and energy biscuits to last 4 weeks.
To donate a bore hole please email us at relief@world-federation.org
£20 is the difference between life and death for a family in a refugee camp. A bore hole will provide water for an entire community.
