In East Africa this is not something that needs to be imagined, but a reality in Northern Kenya and Somalia.
A study commissioned by The International Organisation for Migration indicated that refugees who migrate from Somalia to the refugee camps in Northern Kenya are faced with rape, extortion, theft, loss of children, and death.
Despite these risks and in desperation the hungry and starving refugees take this
gruelling and horrendous journey from Somalia to Northern Kenya in search of food and water for their families.
The World Federation’s Africa Relief campaign with your donations is providing the necessary food, water and healthcare there. Our food parcels are helping nearly 70,000 people survive the extreme drought conditions.
Subaan, a 17-year-old girl endured 16 hours of labour fleeing to Dadaab from drought conditions in Sakow, Somalia. Her delivery was severely damaging to her health, and she has yet to receive medical attention.
Other refugees told her that only women with her condition who give birth inside the camps can see the doctors. People who give birth outside of the camps don’t get medical attention.

Somali refugees continue to migrate to Kenya at a rate of 1,100 people per day. The refugee camps in Dadaab are at breaking points with the new arrivals requiring immediate assistance. Unfortunately, Subaan's story is not unique and many refugees require immediate medical attention upon their arrival.
However with limited resources, and the increasing demand of medical treatments, many refugees are not treated until they are registered. Therefore Africa Relief has embarked upon providing Medical and Ophthalmological care to the refugees in Northern Kenya.
• £15 donation will provide a refugee with medical assistance and enough medication to treat their condition
• £50 will give the gift of sight to an elderly refugee suffering from cataracts
• £20 will provide a family of seven enough food for a month
