Ramadhan Relief 1428:  Aid Distribution in Syria

The World Federation’s Damascus Office Manager, Hussein Ravji, reports:  “I am very happy that The World Federation has taken steps to identify the need for aid required in Syria this Ramadhan. I for one understand that every Muslim must fast. Whether be poor or rich, it is an obligation upon each person at the age of maturity. There is a difference between the two where the rich chooses and knows what he will eat, and the poor has no choice in what they eat, if they eat.”

Through the Ramadhan Relief Program, the Ramadhan Relief team in Syria has made a tremendous difference to those in needs as well as to the health of individuals. The team traveled as far as Homs, a city about 150 Km from Damascus to provided Ramadhan aid. Homs has many villages surrounding its city and this is where one can find Muslim families living in poverty. Here, approximately 127 families were gifted with monthly rations where each family consisted of an average of 5 persons - making the total of 635 Mu’mineen assisted in Homs alone. Rations included: 10 kg  of Rice, 4 liters of Cooking Oil, 5 kg of Vermicelli, 5 kg of sugar, 1 kg of Fine Tea, 1 kg of Split Pea, 2 kg of Ghee, 1 kg Broad Beans, 1 kg of Wild Wheat, 2 kg Tomato Paste, packets of Macaroni, 1 kg of Halva.

Many more families in Damascus and Zainabiya also received rations. Most families comprised of orphaned children and widows. In the village of Rabwa, a special children's program is underway for the entire month of Ramadhan. On the nights of the Wafaats, Iftaars will be served to the deserving. On Eid day, children will receive special gifts.

Furthermore, an Iraqi national suffering from eye problems received an operation. From her bottom eyelets, a large amount of fat was surgically removed to avoid future problems. After speaking with the Doctor on payment of the operation, he stated that this operation  would for sure relieve her and benefit her future eyesight.

After much of the aid was distributed to needy families, 27 more families in the town of Fua were identified who were in dire need of support. Fua is about 350 Km from Damascus where the population is around 25,000 - all being Shia Muslims. Inshallah, the Ramadhan Relief Team in Syria will be assessing this area throughout the coming year so that help can be extended there next year.
