This Ramadhan, The World Federation’s Ramadhan Relief Program was able to provide assistance and special programs to Muslims residing in Kenya with the support of the Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya (BMMK).
Shan-E-Abbas Hassam, the Assistant Secretary General of Relief expressed: “We are thankful for Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya's dedication to Ramadhan Relief. We shall continue supporting them and can only thank them for their commitment. The depth and variety of Relief and Tableegh programs offered is evidence of their noble efforts.”
Thanks to the generosity of donors from around the world:
- Iftaar was provided at 23 Masjids in the rural centers.
- Ration was provided to communities where women took part in cooking Iftaar to be served at the masjid. More than 1200 families including 2000 children benefited. The daily average number of persons who partook Iftaar was 3600 including women and children.
- Food parcels were distributed to 205 families residing in urban centers.
- Food parcels were distributed to 106 families in the rural Centers.
- Ration was also provided to 7 boarding secondary schools and inmates of Shimo la Tewa Prison.
The total amount of food items that were distributed included:
Maize Meal – 10,464 Kg Rice - 2,367 Kg
Wheat Flour – 7,000 Kg Tea Leaves – 262 Kg
Sugar – 4,300 Kg Yeast – 38 packets
Cooking oil (3 liters)–290 cans Goats - 452
Cooking oil (20 liters) - 104 drums Beans – 4,050 Kg
Dates – 560 Kg
On Eid ul Fitr, meat was distributed to families in the Rural Centers. Eid gift was presented to all Madrasah students and Muballighin.
The Masjid in the Rural Centres held the following programs:
- Special sessions for recitation of Quran
- Lectures on Sawm
- Dua Iftitah, Dua Tawassul and Dua Kumayl
- Events such as the Wiladat of Imam Hassan (as), Wafats of Bibi Khadija (as) and Imam Ali bin Abitalib ( as) were observed
- Amal of Laylatul Qadr were performed on the respective nights. Sehri was served thereafter.
- In Mombasa, Zahra Women Group arranged the Laylatul Qadr aamals for the whole night on the 23rd of Mahe Ramadhan.
Finally, a radio broadcast program, Hidaya ya Ramadhan (a special 6 part series) was held. Here, highly informative lessons on Tafseer of Suratul Qadr, Excellence of the Holy month, Dua and bidding farewell to the Holy month were delivered by Sheikh Abdillahi Nassir, Ustadh Muhammad Dumila and Shariff Aidarus Mzee Mwenye. In addition, the program included the recitation of Shahru Ramadhan Duas and Qasidas.
The BMMK expressed, “We pray that by the wasila of the Ahlul Bayt (as), may Allah (swt) reward all those who contributed in abundance, for He has said, ‘…. And Allah gives manifold increase to whom He pleases…’.” (Al Baqara 2:261)
