Updated 4 August 2010
There is a family who lives in the Chang’ombe slum area in the outskirts of Dodoma, Tanzania. This destitute family consists of one widow and her 4 children. The husband died of tuberculosis a few years ago and there is no one to help the mother take care of her children.
The mother has a small business selling charcoal. With the little income she earns, she is barely able to provide one meal a day. For other basic necessities, she depends on aid from charitable organisations and the generous hearts of the local people there.
This Ramadhan, she and hundreds of other families in Tanzania are looking forward to receiving aid through the Ramadhan Relief Program.
POVERTY IN TANZANIA
The astounding beauty of Tanzania makes it easy to forget that this East African country is categorised as a least developed and low-income food deficit country where:
- Poverty remains widespread,
- More than 40% of the population lives in chronic food-deficit regions,
- More than 58% of the population lives on less than $1 per day, and
- 38% percent of children under age five are chronically malnourished.
RAMADHAN RELIEF IN TANZANIA
The World Federation of KSIMC is working with a number of different organisations including the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania, Dar-ul-Muslimeen and WIPAHS in Tanzania to bring respite to the poor and needy this Ramadhan. Some of the efforts underway include:
- Distribute food packets to families, students and inmates
- Organise Tableegh programs
- Gift distribution to orphans and hospital patients
- Arrange Iftaar programs

YOUR DONATION COUNTS
Your donation to the Ramadhan Relief Fund will illuminate the hearts and homes of thousands of underprivileged Tanzanian families this Ramadhan. For instance,
- $33 USD will pay for one food packet which will include rice, wheat flour, maize flour, beans, sugar, oil and dates;
- 80 cents per day will feed one person a hearty Iftaar;
- $10 USD will pay for a pair of shoes or an orphan child.
