The World Federation’s Ramadhan Relief Fund is driving children to research the plight of the hungry as they set up their own fundraising pages on www.justgiving.com. Zamina and Ali Jawad Mithani of Vancouver, Canada are a brother-sister team who were motivated to join our Ramadhan Relief campaign this year. This is what they experienced this Ramadhan:
“Alhamdullilah, the progress my brother and I have made is huge! We have gone over our goal of $500 CAD for the Ramadhan Relief Campaign and raised $620 CAD for the famine and drought in Somalia. Most of the donations we received were given offline.
It was a team effort and an amazing time to bond with my brother, Ali Jawad, in collecting photos and videos for our website and calling up family members to donate.
In trying to look for information and videos on this famine, it really hit us the magnitude of this situation. The kids affected by the drought are more desperate than we think they are. For them, it's an abyss of hunger, thirst, and death. We saw pictures of the weak, fragile bodies of mature children who were smaller than babies. The flesh clung to their skin and looking into their eyes revealed many sorrows.
I know perhaps what we did wasn't a huge amount of money, but I am still glad that we could all give that we could and help the desolate situation. May god accept what we have given. Insha’Allah.”
