Ramadhan Relief Fund 1429:  INFOCUS, Issue 5 - Help Reaches the Deserving

Updated 27 August 2008

And they feed, for the love of God, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive:  (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of God alone:  no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.  We only fear a Day of distressful wrath from the side of our Lord."  But God will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. SURA AL-INSAN (76:7-11)

INFOCUS:  RAMADHAN RELIEF 1429, ISSUE 5
This Ramadhan as we break our fasts, let us remember our fellow Shias in Tanzania and Syria, in India and in Pakistan, in Sri Lanka and in Myanmar and across the globe.  This issue of INFOCUS features a snapshot of last year’s activities which we were able to achieve with your assistance, effort and generosity.  Please help us once again to raise awareness of the challenges faced by many of our brothers and sisters as well as to raise funds to alleviate these hardships during the month of Ramadhan – by taking some time to view this issue, as well as print, distribute and post a copy in your Centres.

AID UNDERWAY TO HELP THE DESERVING

With the recent launch of The World Federation’s Ramadhan Relief Fund 1429, partnering agencies across the world are hard at work preparing food parcel, organising Iftaars and other forms of aid to gift to the needy and deserving this Ramadhan. The spirit of giving is pulsating from region to region, city to city and heart to heart
as Mo’mineen far and wide come forward to volunteer their time and energy for the love of Allah (swt). Indeed this energy is the power of this Holy month. One of our agencies in Dodoma, Tanzania reported that:  “This year is going to be a real challenge due to the steep rise in food costs all over the world. However, I am convinced that together, as a community of committed servants of Allah (swt) and for His pleasure, we will prevail and help those that need it the most.”  Here, plans are underway to distribute food packets to 400 needy Shia families, widows, orphans, students and teachers. Iftaar programs along with Du’a and lectures will be held each night. In an orphanage in Morogoro, Tanzania Iftaar and Sehri are being arranged along with Eid garments (includes trousers, shirts, shoes, kanzu and cap) which will be gifted to the orphans there.

In Bosnia, staple food rations consisting of flour, sugar, salt, oil and potatoes are being purchased, packaged and distributed to families; others will receive cash gifts to afford other basic necessities. In Gujarat, food rations and clothing are being prepared for needy families; the people of this region have suffered greatly from floods this past year and which have driven up the cost of food here. In Myanmar, our brothers and sisters are slowly recovering from Cyclone Nargis where aid will be distributed here as well this Ramadhan.

In the days and weeks ahead, The World Federation will continue to report the Ramadhan activities of our agencies across the world.
