The World Federation Launches Pakistan Emergency Relief Fund


The tribal town of Parachinar and its surrounding areas in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan has recently witnessed a surge of violence, claiming more than 100 lives. In this relatively small town of 70,000 people, it is the Shia Muslims that make up the majority of the population. Since the attacks began, 74 of our brothers have lost their lives – of these, twenty five were youths aged 14 to 25 and forty seven were married and left behind 184 orphans in total. 215 individuals have also been injured – of these, forty five are presently in hospital. For the past two months, Parachinar has been under curfew after attempts to calm the fighting failed.
Today, wounded women, children and men are dying in hospitals due to lack of medicine. Many of our brethren cannot afford to pay the high hospital bills and the cost of ration food is very expensive. In light of the increasing violence in Parachinar and the number of our brothers and sisters affected by the aggression, The World Federation is launching the Pakistan Emergency Relief Fund to raise donations to provide essential goods and services the people of Parachinar.  

Dr Ahmed Hassam, President of The World Federation explains: “The town of Parachinar together with other rural areas in the North Western Region in Pakistan needs a great deal of help both in emergency medicines as well as essentials such as clothing, food and water. The World Federation has launched a fund this Muharram to aide our brethren and we call upon the support from our worldwide community.”
