The youths of the KSIM Community of Birmingham have successfully raised £1,500 to build much needed sanitation facilities in Kenya as part of The World Federation’s Water and Sanitation Project.
Funds were collected through donation tins which were distributed in shops all across Birmingham City Centre. The youth decided to allocate these funds to the Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya (BMMK) who will be managing the construction of four new Ventilation Improved Pit (VIP) latrines at Aman Centre, Dembwa village in Rural Tiata Taveta District in Kenya. These sanitation facilities will also include new water storage tanks as well as adequate plumbing and drainage.
The World Federation and Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya are grateful to the KSIM Community of Birmingham for their noble efforts. It is through the selfless support, commitment and generosity of our community members around the world that we
can continue to make a difference in the lives of those living in hardship.
Fatema Khimji, one of the dedicated volunteers from KSIMC Birmingham stated: 'Through the help of approximately 10 dedicated volunteers, we were Alhamdullilah able to get over 150 fundraising tins into shops and restaurants around Birmingham over the summer. The willingness to help and the enthusiasm from shop owners to raise for such a worthy cause has been overwhelming and Alhamdullilah, the small change that has been collected will really make that big difference to the lives of many!
Shabir Rehemtulla, the President of the KSIMC of Birmingham stated: "Access to clean water and sanitation is the most basic requirement to allow for a dignified spiritual and physical life. Well done to the youth for their achievement in raising these funds."
We pray to Allah (SWT) that He rewards all those who have and will inshAllah generously donate to this cause and also for the hard work of all the dedicated volunteers, without whom, the success of this project would not have been possible.''
