Appointment of Head of the Madrasah Centre of Excellence

Updated 16 November 2011

The World Federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Naushad Mehrali as the Head of the Madrasah Centre of Excellence.

Naushad Mehrali came to the UK during the expulsion of the Asians from Uganda in 1972. After graduating in Mathematics, he went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant with an international firm. He has over 30 years of experience working in the fields of financial, operational and general management and human resources in a group of small and medium enterprises.

Naushad was the Principal of Birmingham Jamaat Madrasah from 1981 to 1987. He then founded Al Huda Madrasah in Birmingham in 1993 and has been running it since. At a time when there was no formal Islamic education available to secondary school students of the community in Birmingham, he established the Madrasah especially to meet this need and was among the first to introduce GCSE Arabic as a core subject. Naushad also played an active role as a member of the Islamic Education Board of The World Federation for several years with special interest in madaris, book publications and tabligh work. He is currently leading the Madrasah Curriculum Development, one of the work streams set up following the madrasah retreat in February 2011. He has participated in various madrasah retreats and visited madaris and Bilal centres in different countries.

Naushad has served in a number of positions, including President, in Birmingham Jamaat’s executive committee. Recently he joined the new building project team as Legal and Governance Officer.

Naushad stated, “It is my firm belief that the time has now come for our community to treat madrasah education with utmost importance. The World Federation has taken the right step in establishing the Centre of Madrasah Education, the overall vision of which is to nurture piety by enabling a learning environment for our future generations that instils the values of Qur’an and Ahlul Bayt (a.s.).

Islamic Education is close to my heart. I thank Allah s.w.t. for giving me the opportunity to serve the worldwide community in this field and pray to Him to grant us success in achieving the challenging vision with the help of parents, teachers and children.”

Shan-E-Abbas Hassam, The Secretary General stated: “We are delighted to appoint Naushad bhai as the Head of the Madarasah Centre of Excellence. Not only has Naushad bhai set up and taught in Madrasahs but he has a huge passion for this area. His skills, determination and passion has lead to this appointment and we look forward to working with him on this extremely important area.”
