The World Federation takes this opportunity of appreciating the warm hospitality accorded to its delegates whilst attending the 2nd Executive Council Meeting, which took place at the newly built Bab-ul-ilm Centre in Leeds. Volunteers between the ages of 8 to 70 years were all there serving the guests and making sure they were comfortable at all times. Preparations for such an event take a long time, and the volunteers put in a lot of time to make sure all delegates were comfortable during their stay in Leeds.
One of the volunteers had the following to say:-
Volunteering is undoubtedly a necessary aspect of community development as it provides bonding and the essential network of support required to nurture every community. Though volunteering requires a lot of determination and commitment, it provides a sense of self-satisfaction derived from the knowledge that this time spent is solely for the pleasure of Allah.
In addition to the immense amount of spiritual benefits one gains, numerous social perspectives become apparent such as gaining an insight into our community as a professional body. It also enables us to enhance our personal skills including organisational abilities which are vital in maintaining a sense of calmness to work effectively under pressure.
In conclusion however, although all volunteers would agree that they carry an important responsibility, a lively spirit and a good sense of humour are essential to ensure everyone's unique qualities come together to serve the whole. Only then will we be able to ensure that events run smoothly and glitch free ... most of the time!!
