Muharram 1429: Report from Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya

The following is a report from Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya (BMMK) on their Muharram 1429 program:

Bilal Hall, Mombasa:
Majlis held in Kiswahili have been organised in Mombasa since 1978/1399 AH. Majlis in Bilal Hall, Mombasa commenced from 9th to 18th January, 2008. The programme started with Maghribain prayers, , followed by recitation of Holy Qur'an, Utenzi (Marthiya) and Majlis in Kiswahili. The attendance was gratifying with numbers reaching more than 200 people including ladies. The majority of the audience was Non-Shia brethren.

The Majalis were recited by Ustadh Muhammad Dumila, Ustadh Athman Swabir, Ustadh Jamal Kasole, Ustadh Ali Akber Athman, and Sheikh Abdillahi Nassir.  On Ashura Night the Majlis attendants participated in the Julus (Ashura procession) organised by the Ithna Asheri Young Men's Union. All the Majlis have been recorded for circulation. This will spread the message to the wider public.

Rural Centres:
Similar programmes were held at 14 mosques in our Rural Centres where Majlis were recited by Madrasah Muallim.

On Ashura day Julus procession was officially organised. Participants walked barefoot from the Masjid for about 2-3 Km and converging back to the Centre.  Thereafter, they performed Aamals of Ashura.

Niyaz was served after Dhuhrain prayers.

Multi Media Outreach - Radio Broadcast Programmes:
On 13 January 2008, Msiba Wa Karbala (Tragedy of Karbala), a Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya Radio Production, hit the airwaves on KBC Pwani FM 103.1 FM Radio Station.

This  five part series was aimed at educating our listeners about the Ahlul Bayt, Imam Husayn (a.s), the Tragedy of Karbala and its historical background. In addition to recital of Ahadith, Marsiyas in Kiswahili and Matam, highly informative talks were delivered by Sheikh Abdillahi Nassir, Seyyid Aidarus Mzee Mwenye and Ustadh Muhammad Dumila.

At the end of each program, simple questions were posed to stimulate interaction with listeners and encourage them to continue tuning in.
