President Appoints Sr. Nargis Valimohamed as Executive Councillor for the Term 2006-2009

As per clause 19.1.2 (C) of the Constitution, the President of the World Federation, Dr Ahmed Hassam has appointed Sister Nargis Valimohamed of Toronto as the Executive Councillor for the term 2006-2009. Recently, at the last Executive Council meeting held in Stanmore, the seat of an appointed Executive Councillor became vacant when Ahmed Bhai Daya, was elected as Treasurer.

Sr. Nargis was born and raised in Mombassa, Kenya.  She was married and moved to Tanzania in 1972, then immigrated to Canada in 1975. Sr. Nargis is a mother of two children and a grandmother to 2 grandchildren.  Her professional experience is comprised of 17 years of working for a major insurance company as a Claim Administrator, 10 years of which were as a Manager of Group Administration Accounting.  Since 1990, Sr. Nargis has gained a wealth of experienced during her work with the Toronto Jamaat in various capacities.  She was a member of the Ladies Committee and a Principal of Thursday night classes at the Jaffari Islamic Centre Toronto.  In 2003, she was elected as the Chairlady for the ISIJ of Toronto, a post which she held for 2 terms from 2003-2007.  Sr. Nargis continues to aspire to create a vibrant community that will be inclusive, inspiring and continuously evolving.

In making this appointment, Dr Hassam said: 'Nargisbai has been an active volunteer in our community for a number of years. When appointing her I was conscious of her community experience and her enthusiasm in supporting the work of The World Federation. I welcome her to the team and pray to Allah (swt) to grant her the Tawfeeq to continue serving this community.'
