Do not let your share, as a result of your rule, be wealth that you derive (personal) gain from, nor rage that you satisfy (by revenge), but (let it be) the killing of injustice and the revival of equity. Imam Ali (AS)
On 31 May 2010, Israeli warships raided six Gaza-bound vessels carrying pro-Palestinian activists and 10,000 tonnes of much needed aid for the blockaded Gaza strip. Up to 20 people have been reported to be killed and many more injured.
The World Federation of KSIMC strongly condemns this irrational attack carried out by the Israeli government and expresses its sincere condolences to the families of those brave volunteers who lost their lives while serving humanity. In addition, we pray for the full and quick recovery of those who were injured.
The World Federation of KSIMC has written a letter to the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) - Foreign Secretary, William Hague, condemning Israel's attack on the aid convoy whose mission was to bring aid to the countless women, children, orphans and families suffering day in and day out at the hands of the Israeli government.
The World Federation of KSIMC reiterates its grave concern of the dilapidated humanitarian situation in Gaza and is appalled by the Israeli blockade of essential goods from reaching the oppressed people of Gaza. For many years now, Israel has restricted the entry of goods into the Palestinian enclave, but stiffened its blockade in 2007 after Hamas took control of Gaza.
In the aftermath of the massive destruction of property and lives caused by the war of the Israeli Army in January 2009, The World Federation of KSIMC joined the global outcry in support of the oppressed peoples of Gaza. Thanks to the contributions from our community members from across the world, The World Federation of KSIMC partnered with UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) and contributed £46,060 to help with the reconstruction of homes for the displaced victims in Gaza (View the full report).
President of The World Federation, Dr Asgar Moledina, said: "The attack and killing of peaceful aid workers is reprehensible. This underlines Israel's flagrant disregard for international law that continues without any real censure. It is unfortunate that while some of our European partners have already withdrawn their ambassadors from Israel in protest of this killing, our government has yet to react to Israel's flouting of international law. We urge our Foreign Secretary to join the international community and condemn this savage act."
TAKING ACTION: HOW YOU CAN HELP
Taking a stand to condemn the oppressive measures of the Israeli government is the least we can do in support of the people of Palestine. However, this is not enough. Let us work together to take responsible and moral action so that we can collectively make a difference. Here are some suggestions:
- Join peaceful protests which are taking place in your local regions
- Write, call and meet your Member of Parliament, or local government representative. UK residents can find out who their MP is by visiting www.theyworkforyou.com
- Write articles in your local or regional newspapers
- Participate in television, radio and online discussion forums
- Call various government departments and voice your opinions and concerns
- Pray for the people of Gaza
We pray to Allah (SWT) to alleviate the sufferings of the distraught and innocent people across the world.
