This Policy applies to all types of materials irrespective of format, whether individual items or collections, offered free of charge, to the World Federation by individual donors in person, or agents acting on their behalf as in the case of bequests.
General

The World Federation acknowledges the extent to which its resources have been and continue to be enriched through the generosity of donors. |
1.2

The World Federation continues to welcome those donations in kind which enhance its ability to serve the KSIM community worldwide. |
1.3
|
The World Federation will only accept materials which it considers to fall within its acceptability guidelines as below. |
Policy

2.1
|
The final decision to accept or decline gifts rests with The World Federation on the advice of the Head of unit to which the offer is being made.If it is decided to decline a donation, consensus will be sought of 2 office bearers of The World Federation.

Gifts are accepted on the understanding that on receipt they become the property of The World Federation. |
2.3
|
The World Federation retains the right to organise and locate gifts according to its own judgement, in the absence of any agreement to the contrary. |
2.4
|
Gifts are accepted on the understanding that the donor informs the World Federation of it’s book value. |
Acceptance guidelines
3.1
|
The World Federation will, take account of
- Any impact on and congruity with its existing holdings
- The physical condition of materials offered and any consequent conservation implications
- The cost implications of housing, processing, and providing appropriate access to the gifted material

3.2
|
The World Federation will ethically dispose of gifted material which subsequently proves to be unwanted as it sees fit without the need to consult the donor. |
3.3
|
The World Federation will not give general advice on alternative methods of disposal of material it is unwilling to accept. |
3.4
|
In the case of unannounced or anonymous donations The World Federation will assume the owners have made themselves aware of The World Federation's policy on gifts and will act accordingly. |
Donor recognition
4.1
|
The World Federation will make this Policy publicly accessible and provide potential donors with a copy if requested. |
4.2
|
The World Federation will provide donors with a brief, pro-forma receipt for gifts (not including valuations) if asked. |

Accession records will record the names of donors. |
4.4
|
The World Federation will respect the wishes of donors to remain anonymous providing there is no threat to the The World Federation in being implicated in any wrong doing. |
This policy will be monitored to ensure that it is effective and will be regularly reviewed and revised as necessary.
