A ZCSS Success Story: Nazin Akhter

Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme (ZCSS) champions the rights of all children living in destitution access to education. Here is one individual’s account of how ZCSS changed her life:

“I joined the ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME in 1992. I was invited by Hazrat Fatima (sa) Social Welfare Society when they saw my desire to study; but the financial constraints made it impossible for me to realize my dream to get admission to a local school.

The Committee took over the responsibility of my education. My father, being a poor farmer was unable to send his children to school. I had a strong desire to go to school and come out of the darkness of illiteracy but the family’s financial situation was so poor that it was a dream for me.

But in 1992 when ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME enrolled me and took up the charge of my education it was no looking back for me and my dream came true. When I passed my HSC, I joined the Committee School as a teacher. I started contributing to the expenses of the family and this augmented the family’s income. Our condition improved. Eventually my brother also joined ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME.

People started respecting me and I was offered different part time jobs and vocations and my role in society was recognized. I played a very positive role in the improvement of the prevailing mindset of the people and the environment and persuaded many to go to school and treat illiteracy as the main reason for being bogged down in privation and being subjected to prejudices, which threatened freedom, and personal and social development. It was a stigma particularly for the women folk. This realization came to me thanks to ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME and I passed it on to the people of my area and the younger generation.
Today I am going to college, though married and have social and family responsibilities to attend to. ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME has been a blessing and boost for me and the people and the community of Prithimpassa. I hope to continue higher education to improve my conditions, my family’s and the society at large. Many avenues and opportunities have opened up for me and I want others to be a part of this facility offered by the Committee.

ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME has changed mine and others lives profoundly and the belief that only the privileged and the affluent have access to education has changed in our society where the majority are poor. My example has become a model for others. ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME’s role has been laudable and a milestone in the area.”
