Over the past 25 years, 50,000 students have benefited from contributions to the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme (ZCSS), which has helped educate children in order to help them out of poverty. The World Federation is looking for runners to take part in the British 10K Run on the 1st of July 2007 in London to raise money through sponsorship, for more children to be educated through this scheme.
The vast majority of the students are in India, but students are also educated in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Kenya, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand and Uganda. The mission statement has always been to ‘eradicate poverty through education’ - and currently the Scheme sponsors approximately 13,500 students.
In 2005, 10 runners took part on behalf of the World Federation to raise money for the Aeinullah Eye Clinic in Baghdad. This year we are looking for more participants to help our efforts in raising more funds for this cause. Participants, who must be aged 15 years or older on the race day, will enjoy a scenic route, past many of London's major landmarks. Hijab must be observed.
