The annual Performance Evaluation Workshop 2009 for students sponsored by Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya through Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme (ZCSS) was held on 15 August 2009 at Bilal Hall, Mombasa.
The students participated in various training sessions and their performance was evaluated on academic and religious aspects. A total of 52 students from University Secondary Schools, Primary schools and Tertiary attended this workshop.
The main objectives of this workshop were to:
- Assess and enhance the religious knowledge of the students
- Advise students on issues that will assist them in their studies
- Assess the students’ academic performance
- Advice students on career guidance
The first session was on career guidance conducted by Mrs. Nguti, Head of the Science Department and career teacher from Jaffery Academy, Mombasa. She gave tips on how to choose their future career and on how to start a small business.
This was followed by Quran recitation and a quiz. The students participated in tests n Ahkamu, Tajweed, and fluent recitation. Students were tested on their performance of wudhuu. At the end of the session the students were evaluated.

This year, for the first time, four exemplary students were given the platform to address the students on their experiences and the important role that education has played in their lives. The student speeches were given to help encourage students in their studies and to act as role models for them.
After the workshop, students had the following feedback:
“Through the career programme, I know what I would like to do in the future, and will have to study hard to achieve it”
“I liked the speeches given by the role models because they showed us they were like us and that we should work hard”
