As part of the manifesto to enhance economic upliftment and promote Islamic Education within our communities in India and review some of the work that was initiated during the previous trip in late 2021, The WF President – Alhaj Safder Jaffer travelled to India in January 2023. He was joined on this trip by The WF Lead in India, Alhaj Asad Virani, Alhaj Gulam Virji, as well as officials from India Federation and Council of Gujarat.

During the visit, the President spoke with members of the Jamaat Committees, the Jamaat’s general membership, professionals and undergraduates who have completed their studies, as well as madrasah teachers and those who are actively engaged in tableegh work.

Below are some of their visit’s highlights:

Zahra Mediplus Hospital

Alhaj Safder Jaffer began his trip in India by visiting the Khoja run Zahra Mediplus Hospital and met with their managing committee. The purpose of the visit was to exchange ideas and explore opportunities of collaboration on medical facilities for Khoja community members both locally and abroad as far as treatment is concerned.

Kalupur Jamaat

 

The WF delegation travelled to Kalupur Jamaat, where they met with Jamaat officials where discussions were primarily focussed on their housing needs. The WF President presented the Jamaat with an award in recognition of their long-standing commitment to serving the community.

Sarkhej Jamaat

The President then had the opportunity to visit the Sarkhej Jamaat. He and Alhaj Gulam Virji were very cordially welcomed during the visit and Alhaj Safder Jaffer also addressed the community on the work done by The WF and the potential of doing more with mutual collaboration with Regional Federation and Jamaats.

Husaini Education

The WF President, Alhaj Safder Jaffer, signing a strategic alliance agreement with Husaini Education to ensure that Higher Education support is available for all Khoja Students across India.

Mahdi School

Mahdi School in Bhavnagar celebrated their 25th year anniversary and The WF Delegates were in presence of this exciting moment. There was an array of special performances and recitations by the students of the school ranging from 7 to 15 year olds.

The delegation then visited an exhibit by students of the Atal Experiment Centre which was inaugurated by Alhaj Safder Jaffer in October 2021. The WF President was also honoured to inaugurate the Mahdi Prayas & Hunnar centre for girls to assist them in developing their skills.

The President presented the  Al Shams Award to Al Mahdi School in recognition of their excellence in Education and Contribution to the wider society.

Meeting with the Council of Gujarat

The Council of Gujarat arranged for a meeting which was attended by representatives of various Jamaats including Bhavnagar, Palitana, Sihor, Dihor, Rajula, Vijaypoaid, Tana and Gadhada. The meeting was very fruitful as it was a round table meeting with mutual participation from Jamaat members too.

Meeting with India Federation

The WF delegation met with Alhaj Mukhtar Varteji, India Federation President, the Office Bearers and committee members of India Federation to strengthen the bond and discuss further collaboration in India. The meeting also reviewed the development in educational support across India by India Federation and The World Federation, as well as a progress review by the housing team led by Alhaj Riyazbhai Masani.

The delegation visited Baroda Jamaat which was formed 4 years ago. The Jamaat is actively involved in external tableegh activities with the broader Muslim communities

Meeting with the Anand community

The delegation then visited Anand Jamaat which was formed only a few years ago and were pleasantly surprised to see the swift progress by the community members. The WF delegation strongly felt that Anand was a good location for potential settlement for individuals of the community looking for better business prospects.

Bharuch Jamaat

The Bharuch Jamaat houses 15 to 20 families and has a mix of businessmen and professionals. Alhaj Safder Jaffer was pleased to know that the Jamaat has also produced chemical and mechanical engineers who are currently settled in the West; some of whom were students supported through the ZCSS scheme.

Ameerul Momineen (a) Library

The WF President was invited to visit the Ameerul Momineen (a) Library in Bharuch to experience the vast work being carried out by the organisation founded by Marhum Ebrahim Patel who was a well known outreach scholar in Gujarat. They are involved in translation of books into Gujarati, and publish and distribute these for free to their members all around the World.

The Ankhleshwar Jamaat is a small but very active Jamaat. The WF President was welcomed by the community whole heartedly. The WF delegation also got an opportunity to meet a female student of the community who is pursuing her MBBS with the help of The WF Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme (ZCSS). The delegation also visited the adjacent land where a purpose built mosque is being planned.

The delegation visited the Silvassa Jamaat and learnt that the first Khoja family to settle there was in 1994, and since then the community has grown to more than 100 families. Silvassa is well known amongst the Indian KSIMC, home to the Rauza of Imam Husain (a) and Hazrat Abbas (a) which is visited by people travelling from as far as Bhavnagar and Mumbai.

The delegation got an opportunity to interact with the youth of the Vapi Jamaat and hear from them about their career goals.

The delegation then met the Surat Jamaat members at both their centres; Oondh and Surat main city. Alhaj Safder Jaffer was pleased to see The WF’s first ever project in India which was a housing project initiated by Marhum Alhaj Mulla Asghar in 1978 which comprised of 14 flats for the community members.

The delegation also met Dr. Misam, who hails from Mahuwa, and with the support of WF and HEWST, has become a successful Orthopaedic Surgeon and has settled in Surat.

Alhaj Safder Jaffer, The WF President, paid a visit to the Ithna-Asheri Jamaat Community Centre in Hyderabad where he met with Alhaj Raza Badami – President of Hyderabad Jamaat, and his team. The discussion revolved around the Jamaat’s development and various issues were discussed with some senior members of the community in attendance.

The Jamaat was very thankful for all the support provided by India Federation and The World Federation for the various project initiatives for the community in Hyderabad.
