29th July 2022 / 29th Dhu al-Hijjah 1443
In the Name of Allah (SWT), the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Dear Community members,
May Allah (SWT) magnify our and your reward, for our grieving at Imam Husayn (a), peace be on him.
Once again Allah (SWT), in His Infinite Mercy, has blessed us with the arrival of the new Islamic year 1444. We at The World Federation have decided to place a special focus on the Holy Qur’an this coming year, nominating 1444 as ‘The Year of the Qur’an’.
As we approach Muharram, we would like to convey our condolences to the entire Muslim Ummah for the tragic martyrdom of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (a) and his companions and holy progeny. Muharram is a time in which we renew our pledge of allegiance to our living Imam (aj) through the remembrance of his sacrifice in saving our faith as revealed in the Holy Qur’an, when others sought to destroy it. Yazid once said ‘The fact is that neither an angel came to them nor any revelation descended’, in an attempt to diminish the provenance of the Holy Qur’an. However, Imam Husayn (a) indeed successfully fought against this and disproved it to the world, restoring the honour of the Holy Qur’an, so that we could continue living our lives in the way of Allah (SWT).
The Holy Qur’an was revealed to us as a Guide, teaching us how to lead our lives and as a Distinguisher of right from wrong. Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur’an:
“O’ People of the Book! Indeed Our Messenger has come to you, expounding to you much of what you have been hiding of the Book, and overlooking much. Indeed there has come to you, from Allah, a Light and a clear Book.”
(Qur’an – 5:15)
It is through the teachings of Aimma (a) and the sacrifice of Imam Husayn (a) we can understand the truth which Allah SWT conveys to us in the Qur’an, which is why we must continue to honour the Holy Qur’an in our communities and in our own lives.
The year 1444 will be dedicated to the promotion of the Holy Qur’an throughout our global communities Inshallah and the Secretariat will be announcing a series of initiatives over the year. The Madrasah Centre of Excellence (MCE) have commenced work towards a new and advanced Qur’an Curriculum for Madaris across the globe to bring this light into the hearts of our young generation – to teach them to love and live in the way of the Light – The Holy Qur’an.
As we congregate over the next ten days and nights, we will remember the sacrifices of Imam Husayn (a), including his six-month old son, Hazrat Ali Asghar (a). On the plains of Kerbala, Hazrat Ali Asghar (a), along with everyone else in the camp, were mercilessly deprived access to water.
In the month of Muharram, let us remember the thirst of the children of Karbala and kindly consider donating toward WF-AID’s flagship Ali Asghar Water Appeal.
With Salaams and Duas,
President – The World Federation
