Alhaj Safder Jaffer, The WF President, recently revisited Pakistan to initiate the second phase of the Pakistan Flood Emergency – Build a Home campaign.

As part of the economic upliftment program, The President also visited various hospitals and a vocational training institute in Karachi, facilitated and organised through the good offices of Alhaj Taqi Jaffer – Chairman of Jaffer Family Foundation (JFF) and trustee of The United Global Initiative (UGI) who accompanied the delegation. Accompanied members also included Alhaj Mohsin Gheewala – WF Councillor, Alhaj Asad Hemani – representing UGI, and Alhaj Muhammad Mustafa Hemani – WF Pakistan Lead. The visit explored the various network of specialist hospitals in Karachi and discussions progressed on their usability for Khoja Ithna-Asheri communities globally, particularly for patients who travel to Pakistan for specialist treatments.

The President, together with WF Councillor, Alhaj Mohsin Gheewala, and Alhaj Muhammad Mustafa Hemani, also met with the leadership of Pakistan Federation, as well as KPSIAJ and discussed the progress of various ongoing activities between The WF and Pakistan Federation, in particular discussing the economic upliftment of the community in Pakistan.

A meeting was also held with Hussaini Foundation (HF) where an MoU between the two parties was finalised.

Alhamdulillah the second phase of the Pakistan Flood Emergency – Build a Home has now been initiated, whereby construction of 1 and 2 bedroom structures are being erected in order to help those families whose homes were completely destroyed in the recent floods. During his visit, The WF President met with builders and beneficiaries to discuss the damage to homes and mosques and communicated the way forward in rebuilding these homes. He visited various areas, namely, Dera Ismail Khan, Fazil Pur, Jhanda Mor, and Rakh Azmat Wala.

Meeting with Pakistan Federation

Alhaj Safder Jaffer – The WF President met with Pakistan Federation and members of the Khoja (Pirhai) Shia Isna Asheri Jamaat Karachi (KPSIAJ) on 18th November 2022. The meeting focused on the ongoing work and progress between the two institutions. The main discussions revolved around the economic upliftment of the community, with focus pertaining to welfare and education. Further enhancements were also made to define the work between the organisations.

The WF Delegation held a meeting with Hussaini Foundation (HF) where an MoU was finalised between The WF and HF to strengthen the existing and long-standing collaboration between the two organisations. In attendance at the meeting was Alhaj Ghulam Abbas Badami – Trustee of Hussaini Foundation, Alhaj Shams Haji – Chairman of Hussaini Foundation and The WF Delegates.

On 18th November 2022, The WF President – Alhaj Safder Jaffer, along with The WF Delegates and Jaffer Family Foundation Chairman visited the Khoja-built Bait ul Sukoon Cancer Hospital. The hospital is run by the Khoja community and provides patients in Karachi with free cancer treatment at the hospital.The WF has previously funded an ambulance and a lift for the hospital. The visit to Bait ul Sukoon Hospital highlighted the need for future collaboration to provide support to community members in Pakistan, in particular the most vulnerable members of communities, and other parts of the World who travel for treatment.

Visit to Indus Hospital

The WF President, Alhaj Safder Jaffer and Chairman of Jaffer Family Foundation – Alhaj Taqi Jaffer, visited Indus Hospital in Karachi, where quality healthcare is provided absolutely free-of-cost to millions of deserving patients through its countrywide network of hospitals in Pakistan. Indus Hospital manages multiple tertiary and secondary care Hospitals, Physical Rehabilitation Centers, Regional Blood Centers, Community Health Centers, and various Public Health Programs spread across Pakistan.

The main focus of this visit was to explore avenues and options for specialist treatments, particularly in regard to kidney transplants and various other bespoke treatments offered within the institution.

The WF President was impressed with the philanthropy work of the Khoja community, in particular Alhaj Mustafa Kassam, who has provided generous donations to Indus Hospital.

Visit to Jinnah Hospital andSindh Institute of Urology & Transplant (SIUT)

Alhaj Safder Jaffer visited Jinnah hospital and SIUT Hospital on 19th November 2022 to explore the enhancement of specialist treatments at the hospitals. The visit was to further expand and collaborate ties by putting in place a needs assessment for patients globally who can have access to treatments in these hospitals.

Visit to Hunar Foundation

Alhaj Safder Jaffer – The WF President with Alhaj Taqi Jaffer – Chairman Jaffer Family Foundation, at the Hunar Foundation

The WF President, Alhaj Safder Jaffer and Jaffer Family Foundation Chairman – Alhaj Taqi Jaffer visited the Hunar Foundation, a Vocational Training Centre in Karachi on 19th November 2022.

The Hunar Foundation was established in 2010 with a vision of creating a new cadre of skilled Pakistani youth with internationally recognised technical and vocational qualifications.

The objective of the visit was to analyse ways on how Hunar Foundation’s facilities can support our communities in Africa, India and Pakistan, and explore ways in which the vocational training and short courses (up to six months) can help enhance the skillset for both, our girls and boys, as they progress forward. This will help uplift communities from poverty, particularly supporting economic upliftment, as the training will help towards establishing businesses.

On 19th November 2022, The WF President visited Koohi Goth Hospital with Dr Tipu Sultan, who runs the Hospital, where discussions were held to collaboratively support the women in Pakistan and help in uplifting their economic situation.Koohi Goth Hospital is an institute where midwives are trained. The objective of the visit was to observe the work done by philanthropists in Pakistan and assess how midwives are trained over a span of completing four courses.

During the President’s visit to Pakistan, he was invited for a Sports Festival organised by the Green Island Youth Forum & Shaykh Raza Rohani on 19th November 2022. He was requested to present the ‘Man of the Match’ award as well. The WF President was accompanied by Alhaj Abul Hasan Gokul – President of KPSIAJ, Agha Shaheedi – Secretary General of KPSIAJ, Alhaj Muhammad Merchant – Pakistan Federation Executive Councillor to The WF, Alhaj Muhammad Rajpar – Mehfil e Murtaza and other dignitaries and community members were also present at the event.

Green Island Youth Forum, under Green Island Trust, arranges an annual sport festival for community youth. This year more then 300 youth participated in cricket, football, swimming & indoor games competition. A health activity and engagement for the Khoja youths.

The WF President commended the efforts of the Khoja committee, in particular Green Island Youth Forum, for having facilitated such a well-organised event, held in Nishtar Park in Pakistan, Karachi.
