Across the Great Divide: 1000 Years of Hindu–Muslim Exchange
The International Centre for Advanced Islamic Research (ICAIR) is pleased to announce an upcoming lecture exploring the long and complex history of interaction between Hindu and Muslim intellectual traditions.
Titled “Across the Great Divide: 1000 Years of Hindu–Muslim Exchange,” this session will be delivered by Dr David Coolidge.
Drawing on key historical figures and moments, from early encounters in Sindh and the work of al-Bīrūnī, to the intellectual and spiritual exchanges of the Mughal period, the lecture will examine how scholars, mystics, and thinkers engaged across religious boundaries over the course of a millennium.
Rather than viewing these traditions as isolated or oppositional, this session will explore the shared spaces of dialogue, translation, and intellectual exchange that shaped both traditions in profound ways.
