Following the book launch, the WF50 Heritage Weekend premiered a new documentary marking The World Federation’s Golden Jubilee. Drawing on archive material and the reflections of past and present leaders, the film traces its story from the meeting at Hammersmith in 1975 and the constitutional conference of October 1976, through the early years in which its founders built a global institution through letters, meetings and voluntary commitment.
The documentary follows The World Federation’s response to crises, from the evacuation of 1,053 people from Mogadishu to Mombasa with the Africa Federation to the later rescue in Yemen and the response to the Gujarat earthquake. It also marks milestones including special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, more than 2,000 homes for flood-affected families in Pakistan, the first English translation of the risalah of His Eminence Sayyid al-Sistani (DZ), and the work of ICAIR, the Madrasah Centre of Excellence and WF-AID.
The film closes with a tribute to the volunteers, teachers, donors and families whose service has sustained the community over fifty years, and reflects on the passing of Marhum Mulla Asghar in 2000 and how his successors carried The World Federation forward.
Following the screening, Alhaj Dr Hasnain Walji, who led the production of the Khoja Anthem, the book and the documentary, reflected on fifty years of service and announced his retirement from active service with The World Federation, while continuing to support the President until May 2027. He announced that Alhaj Mahmood Dhala and Alhaj Asad Virani will co-chair the Khoja Heritage Project. “I am retiring from office. I am not retiring from service,” he said.
